Silk Curtains for Gorgeous Georgian House

I had the pleasure of making 5 pairs of full length silk curtains for this Georgian House.  They were fully interlined with the very best of bump – yes ‘bump’, that’s the soft fluffy cotton, 420gsm,  that can make a huge difference not only to the insulation properties of your curtains but also can make them look really sumptuous. This sits between the silk and the lining, and all layers are interlock stitched across the widths at every quarter width to make sure that the curtains work as one, and that the interlining does not slump and distort over time.   Interlining is also essential for silk, as this fabric is prone to ‘sun rot’ and needs to be protected from UV light as much as is possible.  The headings for these curtains was a soft gathered look, achieved by a 1″ cotton taped header.   The silk was a Harlequin, Lustre 5 silk, Laminar, in ‘Powder’ .  A sort of coral side of pink silk, not baby pink, perfect for this elegant room. These required 63 metres.
